After watching the 13 minute DVD, "The History of Reconstruction," a guide will show participants around Ainokama park. While visiting the memorial monument in the park, the fire lookout tower, and the foundation of homes which were damaged by the tsunami in March 2011, the guide will explain what happened at that time. The "Millenium Hope Hills" is not only a symbol of the reconstruction, but also plays a role as part of a system of multiple defenses against tsunamis. Iwanuma City has introduced four defenses as a countermeasure against a tsunami disaster. Learn about the concept of disaster risk reduction, which minimizes the damage caused by disasters, from these efforts.
Lessons from the disaster, a mindset of disaster prevention in daily life, and Iwanuma City's efforts to mitigate future damage.
