Understanding Sendai as a disaster area [Arahama and Yuriage]

Contents/ Itinerary for BOSAI Tourism

A half-day course recommended for those who would like to know more about the disasters around Sendai City. Visit the coastal areas destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake such as the Arahama area in Sendai City and the Yuriage area in Natori City (within 20 kilometers radius from Sendai station). See the destruction caused by the tsunami and earthquake, as well as current reconstruction efforts.
Sample course: Depart east entrance of Sendai station (lodging) → Arai → Arahama (memorial monuments) → Yuriage (observation) → lunch → Natori or Iwanuma (tour)→ arrival at Sendai station or airport.

Hear the real life stories of locals spanning from the day of the disaster to the present. Many residents in coastal areas near Sendai City lacked awareness and failed to evacuate in time.
See with your own eyes the differences in the type of damage caused between the densely populated areas in close proximity to a large city and the Sanriku coastal areas.
