Hiyoriyama Park

Hiyoriyama is located in a hilly area of the city center near the former mouth of the Kitakami River. Poet Matsuo Basho is said to have once visited this place known for its panoramic view of Ishionamki City, stretching from the former mouth of the Kitakami River to the Pacific Ocean. On clear days it is possible to see as far as the Oshika Peninsula, Matsushima, and even the Zao mountain range in the far distance.
